Job summary

GEO Corrections & Detentions seeks a Lead Hospital Officer to supervise detainees in a hospital setting and ensure custody is maintained at all times.

You will follow Medical Guarding Procedures, apply restraints appropriately, and document all activities with reports to the Transportation Supervisor. This role requires overtime and travel as needed, with strict safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 3 years of continuous law enforcement experience including 2 years in a lead or supervisor role.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Must possess a State Firearms License.
• Must possess a personal sidearm and Level III retention holster.
• Must possess a State Security Guard License.
• Must complete an approved training program in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
• Certification in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
• Ability to work overtime frequently.
• Willingness to travel extended periods with overnight stays.
• Ability to handle physical and mental stress during long shifts.
• Able to report to work on time regularly.
• Ability to work up to 16 hours within a rolling 24 hour period.
• Mature, flexible, and able to command respect from inmates and staff.
• Ability to work with computers and department software.

Responsibilities

• The Lead Hospital Officer ensures custody and control of detainees in the hospital at all times.
• Follows restraint protocols outlined in Medical Guarding Procedures.
• Ensures restraints do not interfere with medical procedures or cause harm.
• Maintains detainee positioning within eyesight at all times.
• Prohibits outside visitors unless required by contract or court order.
• Detainees are not allowed to make phone calls unless required by contract.
• Completes all paperwork and reports; submits to Transportation Supervisor per policy.
• Maintains a duty log detailing events during the shift; reports unusual events immediately.
• Ensures detainees are properly secured prior to leaving the hospital.
• Follows all safety measures and applicable laws, regulations, and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
