Job summary

The Transportation Worker 3 Crew Chief will work in McDowell County, leading a crew in the maintenance and repair of highways under limited supervision. You will investigate citizen complaints to determine repairs and materials and oversee daily project assignments and reporting.

A CDL must be obtained within six months of employment, with Tier 4 hourly rate of $26.7338. Four years of related roadway construction or maintenance experience are required; substitutions via vocational training are

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in roadway construction or roadway maintenance, or in bridge or structural steel construction comparable to the work performed by the Division of Highways.
• Substitutions: Successful completion of an approved vocational school program may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience in the specified area of assignment.
• No formal education required.

Responsibilities

• Leads a crew of transportation workers and participates in the maintenance and repair of highways.
• May lead a crew of sign shop employees in the fabrication, location, installation, and repair of highwaysignage.
• Investigate citizen complaints on roads and inspect highways to determine needed repair work.
• Assists in scheduling maintenance and repair projects.
• Coordinates equipment and materials needed.
• Assigns duties to crew members and leads crews in the completion of projects.
• Completes all required reports concerning time and attendance, materials, equipment, and inspection of work.
