Job summary

State of West Virginia is seeking a Transportation Worker 3 Crew Chief to lead highway maintenance crews and oversee daily projects. The role involves coordinating crew assignments, inspecting work, and reporting time and materials.

The position requires knowledge of safety practices, blueprint reading, and operation of motorized equipment, with a CDL required within six months of employment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of safety practices used in structural steel construction.
• Knowledge of procedures, techniques, and equipment used in the area of assignment.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety standards in the area of assignment.
• Ability to read operation manuals, blueprints, and specifications.
• Ability to operate motorized equipment.
• Ability to climb high steel structures.
• Ability to train and work cooperatively with other skilled workers.

Responsibilities

• Leads a crew of transportation workers and participates in the maintenance and repair of highways.
• May lead a crew of sign shop employees in fabrication, location, installation, and repair of highway signage.
• Investigate citizen complaints on roads and inspect highways to determine needed repair work.
• Assists in scheduling maintenance and repair projects.
• Coordinates equipment and materials needed.
• Assigns duties to crew members and leads crews in completing projects.
• Completes reports concerning time and attendance, materials, equipment, and inspection of work.
