Job summary

The West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) seeks a Transportation Worker 3 Crew Chief to lead a crew in highway maintenance and repair, under limited supervision.

Responsibilities include investigating citizen complaints, scheduling projects, coordinating equipment and materials, and producing time and attendance reports. CDL will be required within six months. The position may involve exposure to weather and hazardous conditions, with possible travel.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in roadway construction or roadway maintenance, or in bridge or structural steel construction comparable to the work performed by the Division of Highways.
• Experience substitutions: Successful completion of an approved vocational school program may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience in the specified area of assignment.
• No formal education required.
• CDL will be required within six (6) months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Lead a crew of transportation workers and participate in the maintenance and repair of highways.
• Investigate citizen complaints on roads and inspect highways to determine needed repair work.
• Assist in scheduling maintenance and repair projects.
• Coordinate equipment and materials needed.
• Assign duties to crew members and lead crews in the completion of projects.
• Complete all required reports concerning time and attendance, materials, equipment, and inspection of work.
