Job summary

Sound Transit is seeking an experienced program manager to lead the planning, design, and environmental review of a High Capacity Transit corridor, coordinating with local governments, communities, and the design team to align station locations, design features, and mitigation strategies while overseeing scope, budget, and schedule.

The role requires strong leadership, negotiation, and communication skills to build consensus, supervise staff, and present briefing materials to the Board.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Transportation, Business Administration, Public Administration or closely related field.
  • Six years of public transit project management experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
  • Valid driver's license may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned staff; assigns work activities and coordinates schedules, projects, and programs.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with project partners and stakeholders; negotiates third party agreements.
  • Develops partnerships to support station area planning and TOD, land use, and urban design improvements.
  • Coaches and motivates staff; manages workflow and performance; provides advice and career development plans.
  • Manages design budget and scope; procures and manages consultants for preliminary engineering and environmental reviews.
  • Follows FTA guidelines for New Starts funding during planning, environmental, and design phases.
