Job summary

The State of West Virginia is seeking an Equipment Operator in the Transportation Worker 3 classification. Based in Upshur County, you will operate heavy road maintenance equipment and perform field repairs, with potential to lead other operators and travel statewide.

Applicants must have a CDL (Class A or B) and at least four years of experience operating heavy equipment. Training through the apprenticeship program applies, with state benefits and full-time employment.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A or B CDL and four years’ experience operating heavy equipment.
• Substitutions: vocational school may substitute for two years of experience.
• Experience with heavy equipment such as bulldozers, loaders, drills, trucks.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment (bulldozers, graders, excavators, dump trucks).
• Perform field maintenance, load/unload equipment, and basic repairs.
• Lead or train lower-level equipment operators when needed.
• Drive to sites statewide and assist with maintenance and construction tasks.
