Job summary

External SA Recycling in Phenix City, AL is seeking a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Supervisor to lead maintenance for heavy diesel-powered mobile equipment and a scrap processing fleet. You will supervise mechanics, oversee preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensure uptime while controlling costs.

The role requires strong diagnostics skills, hydraulics, electrical, and welding knowledge, with a focus on safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in heavy diesel-powered mobile equipment maintenance
• 2+ years in supervisory or management capacity
• Experience in scrap metal recycling, waste management, heavy construction, or mining preferred
• Technical knowledge: hydraulics, diesel engines, powertrains, welding, electrical diagnostics
• Must be physically fit for outdoor work and able to lift/climb
• Willingness to pass drug screen, physical, and background checks
• Vocational/Technical degree in Diesel Technology or Mechanical Systems highly desired

Responsibilities

• Lead diagnostics, repair, service and maintenance for heavy diesel mobile equipment, trucks, and scrap processing fleet
• Manage a team of heavy equipment mechanics; ensure maximum fleet uptime
• Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance; maintain CMMS records
• Coordinate with yard General Manager to minimize downtime and align maintenance with production needs
• Procure spare parts, manage inventory levels, and oversee local contractor contracts
• Monitor and manage department budget to optimize asset lifecycles
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards
• Promote safe shop practices and PPE usage
