Job summary

The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic (Advanced Journey/Lead) to service heavy and light vehicles used in road and airport maintenance. The role involves diagnosing and repairing complex systems and may require travel to remote sites across Alaska.

Travel to remote locations by air and land is possible; possession of a Class A CDL is required or to be obtained within an approved timeframe.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of machines, tools, repair and maintenance.
• Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, systems, repair and maintenance.
• Ability to adapt to changing conditions and new information.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and take initiative.

Responsibilities

• Maintain heavy-duty and light-duty equipment for roads, airports, and other vehicles.
• Diagnose, repair, and modify mechanical systems including transmissions, drive trains, suspensions, engines, fuel injection, hydraulics, brakes, air/electrical for equipment.
• Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems using various techniques and methods.
