Job summary

IonQ, Inc. in Pleasanton, CA is seeking an experienced test engineer to lead hardware verification for next‑generation quantum instruments.

You will collaborate with physicists and engineers to define procedures, lead by example, and mentor early‑career engineers in a lab environment. Responsibilities include developing test plans for FPGA, MCU, and mixed‑signal electronics, executing environmental and EMI/EMC tests, and building automated data systems.

Qualifications

• BSEE/MSEE degree with leadership testing precision instruments.
• Laboratory environment experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication; create test plans.
• Own test results data storage and documentation.
• Design testing protocols for precision instruments; script automated tests.
• Proficient in post-test data analysis for metrics.
• Experience designing test loads, cabling, and custom fixtures.
• Ability to read schematics and datasheets.
• Proficient with oscilloscopes, VNA, SA, power supplies, function generators, DVM.
• US export control eligibility (citizenship/residency).

Responsibilities

• Lead team that tests and debugs complex electronic circuits with FPGAs, MCUs, mixed-signal, and photonics devices.
• Develop test procedures with physicists and engineers for next‑gen quantum instruments.
• Define DFT/DFM improvements with engineering and manufacturing partners.
• Create test plans for environmental, EMI and EMC testing and manage external facilities.
• Use test equipment to characterize and verify performance and build automated data systems.
