Job summary

Sylvania seeks a Lead Grounds to supervise and actively participate in maintenance of district grounds, ensuring safety, quality and efficiency. You will plan daily and seasonal work, coordinate a crew, and take ownership of operations with minimal direction.

Responsibilities include scheduling, equipment management, vendor coordination, and mentoring staff while maintaining high appearance standards across athletic fields and common areas.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Training in horticulture, turf management, or related field preferred.
• Two years supervisory or crew leadership experience preferred.
• Experience in school district or municipal grounds maintenance preferred.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Lead and work alongside a grounds crew, ensuring a high level of daily productivity.
• Set the pace and standard for work ethic, professionalism, and efficiency.
• Assign, monitor, and adjust daily tasks to ensure all work is completed effectively.
• Maintain continuous workflow by planning ahead and ensuring there is always productive work assigned.
• Train, mentor, and develop staff to improve skill level, efficiency, and accountability.
• Foster a team environment focused on accountability, reliability, and consistent performance.
• Independently identify, prioritize, and initiate daily work.
• Develop and adjust work schedules based on weather conditions and district needs.
• Coordinate grounds maintenance activities to support athletic events and school functions.
• Maintain responsibility for all grounds equipment including mowers and tools.
• Track and manage inventory of supplies and parts.
• Provide regular updates to management regarding work progress and equipment status.
• Identify opportunities for improvement, efficiency, or cost savings.
