Job summary

Griffin-Spalding County School System is seeking a dedicated Grounds/Playground Technician to maintain and repair grounds and playground systems across the district. The role emphasizes safety, efficient upkeep, and coordination with the Maintenance Supervisor.

The candidate will perform lawn care, plantings, debris removal, and ensure safe, accessible grounds during all weather conditions, supporting school activities and renovations as needed.

Qualifications

• Five years of grounds work experience with at least three years in educational/industrial settings
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Valid Georgia driver license with a clean MVR (no more than 2 moving violations in 36 months)

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair school system grounds and playgrounds
• Clean and maintain detention ponds, creeks, wooded areas and playgrounds
• Perform landscape and grounds work as needed
• Plant grass, shrubs, trees, and install sod when required
• Ensure safety by using pesticides according to directions and training
• Keep grounds safe and accessible during and after inclement weather
• Assist with outside activities setup and cleanup
• Inspect and maintain playgrounds for safety and proper use
• Transport and distribute materials for playgrounds and grounds projects
• Coordinate with Maintenance Supervisor and facilities teams on projects
• Move furniture, equipment, and materials for construction and renovation
• Set up and relocate athletic equipment and event setups
• Adhere to safety procedures and chemical handling rules
• Maintain time sheets and maintenance records
• Attend required training and safety classes
• Maintain professional conduct and good working relationships
