Job summary

City of Greenville seeks a skilled Grounds Maintenance Worker to perform inspections, maintenance, grounds-keeping, and light construction across city facilities and rights-of-way. You will lead or assist crews, support storm response, and help ensure safety and quality in outdoor operations.

The role requires a high school diploma and 2+ years of landscaping/maintenance experience, plus FEMA ICS certifications within 3 months. Comfort with heavy equipment and variable weather is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Over two years of landscaping, grounds maintenance and construction experience.
• FEMA ICS 100, 552, and 700 certifications within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain General Property: beautification sites, ROWs, and related city areas; plant, mow, fertilize, and perform basic maintenance.
• Maintain Equipment: service and monitor engines, oil, blades, and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment.
• Ensure Safety Measures: identify and address hazards; follow safety protocols and report incidents.
• Assist with Special Projects and Events: set-up and breakdown for events; operate equipment and assist public workers.
• Support Inclement Weather Operations: assist in snow/ice operations and weather-related responses.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
