Job summary

NC Department of Adult Correction is seeking a Grounds Supervisor I to oversee the design and maintenance of lawns and grounds around state institutions, reporting to the Maintenance/Construction Supervisor III. You will supervise skilled, semi-skilled, and offender crews, ensure adherence to safety standards, and coordinate with the grounds team to execute projects.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and at least three years of progressive grounds maintenance experience, plus

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; three years of progressive grounds maintenance experience.
• Experience supervising employees or offenders.
• Knowledge of horticultural practices and techniques for grounds upkeep.

Responsibilities

• Complete work orders from MMS system under supervision.
• Mow, edge, remove leaves, trash, and trim trees and shrubs.
• Apply pesticides and select climate-appropriate plants/trees.
• Sketch landscape plans for undeveloped areas and mark locations.
• Prepare requisitions and cost estimates for grounds operations.
• Ensure grounds equipment has up-to-date service records and is clean.
• Supervise skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled labor, including offenders, per OSHA safety rules.
