Job summary

Montgomery County is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor to oversee and coordinate grounds, landscapes, and related operations across county facilities. The role requires horticulture knowledge, leadership ability, and strong safety practice adherence.

Responsibilities include directing a team of groundskeepers, planning maintenance schedules, budgeting, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Experience in snow removal and irrigation management is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
• 6 years of experience at the full performance level in grounds maintenance and/or parks maintenance including 2 years of supervisor experience or 4 years related experience in grounds maintenance operations.
• Commercial pesticide licensure preferred; must obtain within one year from date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide effective leadership to a team of groundskeepers, assign tasks, set priorities and monitor progress.
• Develop and implement comprehensive grounds maintenance plans including mowing, pruning, planting, pest control and snow removal.
• Oversee installation and maintenance of irrigation systems and ensure water conservation practices.
• Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing safety protocols and park maintenance standards; conduct regular inspections for hazards.
• Manage the department budget, process invoices, issue POs, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Inspect and evaluate the quality of work, coordinate equipment maintenance and ensure compliance with regulations.
