Job summary

Montgomery College has an immediate need for a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor on the Germantown campus. This first shift supervisor role runs 6:00am–2:30pm, Monday through Friday, and is a non-bargaining, Exempt, grade 25 position.

The incumbent will lead a grounds crew, inspect equipment, manage timesheets, and coordinate with campus activities. Essential duties include safety, budgeting, and staff development to maintain a clean, safe campus environment.

Qualifications

• Six years of supervisory grounds/landscape experience in an educational, large commercial, or similar environment.
• Experience operating large snow removal equipment and grounds equipment such as weed eaters and street sweeper equipment.
• Knowledge of or experience working in a union environment is preferred.
• High School Diploma or G.E.D., and/or any combination of education, training and experience providing understanding of the field.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and guidance to assigned staff engaged in grounds maintenance and operations.
• Schedule, assign, inspect and review work of assigned staff to ensure work is performed according to established standards.
• Review and approve timesheets; make corrections as needed.
• Conduct performance evaluations, formal and informal coaching and recommend disciplinary action.
• Conduct recruitment/interviewing and make recommendations to hire.
• Inspect equipment on a daily basis to ensure equipment and tools are functional and safe for use.
• Inspect campus grounds throughout the day to ensure cleanliness and a safe work and learning environment.
• Budget, Purchase and Order equipment, parts, chemicals, fertilizers, tools, flowers, shrubs, and rental equipment.
• Provide support for all campus activities such as meetings, celebrations, student activities, athletic events and commencement.
• Ensure all employees/contractors are informed and kept updated on events on campus.
• Monitor the grounds crew in emergency management techniques of evacuation during emergencies. Familiar with stormwater and snow removal management.
• Ensure all work tickets are completed in a timely fashion.
• Ensure all personnel are trained properly for the equipment being utilized.
• Provide guidance and assistance to personnel and ensure proper tools are utilized effectively and efficiently.
• Create, track, and complete work orders using work order database.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D., and/or any combination of education, training and experience providing understanding of the field, and the ability to perform the duties of the job. Training in Maryland/EPA guidelines for use of lawn care chemicals.
• Six years of experience supervising grounds/landscape personnel in an educational, large commercial, or similar environment. Experience operating large pieces of snow removal equipment and grounds equipment such as weed eaters and street sweeper equipment. Knowledge of or experience working in a union environment is preferred.
• The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.

Hiring Range: $61,384 - $79,776 hourly. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $98,168.

For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service, must be included in your application.
