Job summary

UES is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer in Knoxville to support site investigations, engineering analyses, and technical reporting. You will evaluate subsurface conditions, interpret soil and rock data, and provide foundations and earthwork recommendations for diverse projects.

The role emphasizes field investigations, reports, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, with mentorship for junior staff and ongoing growth in geotechnical engineering practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor in Civil Engineering, Geology, or similar.
• 3+ years in geotechnical engineering.
• PE license preferred or obtainable.
• PMP certification is a plus.
• Proven track record of managing mid-to-large scale projects.
• Experience in geotechnical site investigations, lab testing, design, and construction oversight.
• Experience developing scopes, budgets, schedules, and risk assessments.
• Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, FHWA, ASCE, DOT, OSHA, etc.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for data-driven decisions.
• Ability to lead project teams and mentor junior engineers.
• Proven client communication, stakeholder engagement, and contract negotiations.
• Strong written and verbal communication for technical reporting and proposals.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage field investigations for site data and ground-condition evaluation.
• Perform engineering analyses to assess site feasibility and structural support requirements.
• Develop and review technical reports, design recommendations, and feasibility studies.
• Identify risks and contribute to mitigation strategies and QA measures.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project execution.
• Communicate findings clearly to internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.
• Mentor junior staff and support professional development.
• Maintain knowledge of industry standards and best practices for innovation.
• Other duties may be assigned.
