Job summary

Thompson Engineering in Knoxville is seeking a Senior Engineer – Geotechnical to join our growing Geotechnical Engineering Team as a seller-doer. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or other applicable engineering program.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience.
• Current Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Experience managing energy, transportation, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects preferred.
• Demonstrated success in business development, client relationship management, and project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with public and private sector clients to identify and secure new business opportunities.
• Lead business development efforts including client meetings, networking, proposal preparation, presentations, and contract negotiations.
• Identify opportunities for cross-selling Thompson Engineering's multidisciplinary services.
• Manage geotechnical projects from proposal through final deliverable, ensuring client satisfaction, quality, schedule, and profitability.
• Plan and oversee subsurface investigations for transportation, commercial, industrial, energy, marine, and municipal infrastructure projects.
• Perform and review geotechnical engineering analyses including foundation design, slope stability evaluations, settlement analysis, retaining wall design.
• Prepare and review geotechnical reports, calculations, specifications, and documentation.
• Provide engineering support during construction, including field observations and contractor coordination.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff.
• Collaborate with structural, civil, environmental, and construction professionals to deliver integrated solutions.
• Maintain compliance with building codes and standards.
• Serve as Engineer of Record when appropriate and ensure technical quality of deliverables.
• Support strategic growth initiatives in existing and emerging markets.
