Job summary

UES, Inc. in Tennessee is seeking a Field Geotechnical Engineer to lead subsurface investigations, oversee drilling operations, and evaluate soils and rock on project sites.

This field-intensive role requires documenting field conditions and ensuring compliance with geotechnical recommendations and safety standards. You will communicate findings to contractors and clients, maintain detailed field notes and daily reports, and assist in geotechnical reports and recommendations based on field data.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Geotechnical engineering.
• 3–5 years geotechnical field and construction observation experience.
• Ability to travel extensively and interpret geotechnical reports.

Responsibilities

• Lead subsurface investigations including soil borings, CPT, and rock coring.
• Log borings per ASTM and classify soils using USCS.
• Coordinate field exploration with drilling crews and supervise on-site activities.
• Review laboratory results and prepare geotechnical recommendations.
• Maintain detailed field notes, photos, and daily reports.
• Ensure safety protocols and PPE on all field activities.
