Job summary

Milliman, Inc is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to advance GenAI, NLP, and traditional AI/ML solutions for health, life insurers and adjacent markets. You will collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate client needs into scalable models and real-world tools.

The role emphasizes hands-on modelling, model evaluation, and deployment in cloud environments, mentoring others, and shaping best practices across the analytics group.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional AI/ML experience.
• Expert understanding of NLP and GenAI; able to use, fine-tune and evaluate models.
• Hands-on experience building GenAI applications (e.g., RAG systems, LLM evaluation).
• Expert Python programmer; experience in R and/or SQL.
• Experience with cloud-based model development ecosystems (mlflow, notebooks) and data catalogs.
• Strong software engineering practices (Git, CI/CD, testing).
• Knowledge of ML Engineering/MLOps concepts and tools including CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Linux.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement model-based solutions for healthcare, insurance, and life sciences markets.
• Research, deploy, and maintain traditional AI/ML models and GenAI solutions.
• Collaborate with Product, BD, ML Engineering, and IT to bring new data science products to market.
• Coach and drive best practices, planning, auditing, and experimentation within the team.
