Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks a Lead AI/ML Engineer to drive enterprise-scale AI/ML initiatives, including model development, GenAI applications, and automation. You will provide technical leadership, set engineering standards, and collaborate with product, data, security, and operations teams to deliver impactful AI capabilities.

The role offers flexibility to work remotely nationwide in the U.S., with MN/DC office requirements four days/week for onsite staff.

Qualifications

10+ years of software engineering experience.
4+ years of hands-on AI/ML design, development, deployment or support.
4+ years of Python experience.
2+ years of technical leadership, mentoring, or cross-functional delivery.
2+ years of experience with generative AI, LLMs, or intelligent automation.
2+ years of cloud platforms or enterprise data environments.
2+ years of production delivery practices (monitoring, CI/CD, etc).
2+ years applying responsible AI, data privacy, security, governance, or compliance.

Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and delivery of enterprise AI/ML solutions addressing complex business and technology needs.
Develop and operationalize AI/ML capabilities, including models, GenAI apps, analytics, and intelligent automation.
Provide technical leadership for solution design and engineering practices across AI/ML initiatives.
Ensure AI/ML solutions are production-ready, observable, secure, and compliant with enterprise standards.
Collaborate with stakeholders to define success measures and deliver measurable business value.
Mentor engineers and drive reusable patterns, standards, and responsible AI practices.
