Job summary

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation is seeking a Lead Driver to safely transport CNG, LNG and propane, mentoring junior drivers and ensuring compliance with DOT regulations. The role emphasizes leadership, route coordination, safety training, and strong customer service.

The candidate will hold a valid CDL with Hazmat/Tanker endorsements, have 3–5 years of driving experience, and be prepared for flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.
• 3–5 years of commercial driving experience, preferably in gas, fuel, or energy industry.
• Valid CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements; DOT/FMCSA knowledge.
• Prior leadership or training experience preferred.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, nights, weekends, and on-call shifts.

Responsibilities

• Safely operates company vehicles to deliver gas to customer sites in compliance with DOT/OSHA and safety policies.
• Lead driver on projects, coordinating schedules, site setup, and customer communication.
• Mentor and train new and current drivers on safety and procedures.
• Oversee site safety and PPE compliance for drivers and team members.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections; report maintenance needs.
• Maintain driver logs, trip records, fuel usage, and delivery documentation.
• Serve as primary customer contact during field operations to ensure service satisfaction.
• Assist planning routes, manpower, and troubleshooting with management.
• Support emergency response activities, including after-hours/weekend shifts.
• Lead driver safety training (LLLC, Smith) for local operations.
• Coordinate with District/Operations Managers on driver compliance.
• Encourage PPE compliance and manage PPE stocks on trucks.
