Job summary

Atoms is building the Physical AI platform with real-world robots to safely operate in complex environments. This role owns the technical safety analysis of the automated vehicle platform and its sensing chain, determining safety impact of changes and ensuring the system behaves safely under faults.

You will lead hazard analysis, FMEA across hardware and sensors, and build a compelling safety case while coordinating with engineering, safety operations, and external standards bodies.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in functional safety for automotive or safety-critical hardware domains.
• Ownership of HARA, FMEA, and FTA on real systems that shipped.
• Strong standards fluency: ISO 26262, ISO 21448 (SOTIF), UL 4600; cybersecurity awareness is a plus.
• Real hardware depth: sensors, actuation, wiring, EMC; able to read schematics.

Responsibilities

• Hazard analysis and safety requirements; own HARA and derive safety goals.
• Lead FMEA across platform and sensor suite; identify faults and degradation modes.
• Own sensor-safety analysis: coverage, degradation, fault detection, and responses.
• Define change-impact criteria and depth of safety assessment.
• Build and maintain the safety case aligned to ISO/26262, SOTIF, UL 4600.
• Define verification evidence: fault injection, HIL, field data, or analysis.
• Collaborate with safety operations to close hazards with controls when needed.
