Job summary

TransUnion is seeking a Lead Engineer, Applications Development in Chicago. You will lead the technical design and hands-on development of customer-facing web applications, Java-based backend services, microservices, and RESTful APIs, translating business requirements into detailed designs and driving projects from design through implementation.

The role also involves mentoring junior engineers, collaborating across the US and India, and advancing AI/Generative AI initiatives to improve code

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software-development experience, including at least 8 years in Java and Spring ecosystem
• Full-stack engineering experience building web applications, backend services, microservices, and RESTful APIs in production
• Proven experience leading technical projects, producing detailed designs, conducting code reviews, and mentoring engineers
• Experience supporting production applications, investigating issues, and collaborating with production-support teams
• Practical experience applying AI or Generative AI within software-engineering environments

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and hands-on development of customer-facing web applications, Java-based backend services, microservices, and RESTful APIs
• Translate requirements into detailed designs and independently drive projects from design through implementation
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, review code, and promote best practices
• Develop and support full-stack solutions using Java, Spring Boot, Oracle/SQL, JavaScript, HTML, CSS
• Coordinate software releases and changes across teams in different geographies/time zones
• Participate in Agile planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement
• Evaluate and apply AI/Gen AI technologies to improve code quality, automate activities, and increase efficiency
