Job summary

West Valley City is seeking a seasoned supervisor to lead the Forensic Unit, overseeing personnel, crime scene investigations, and laboratory processing to ensure evidence integrity. The role emphasizes mentoring staff, coordinating on-call rotations, and ensuring adherence to department protocols.

The ideal candidate has a forensic science background, extensive crime lab experience, and prior supervisory duties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Forensic Sciences, Criminalistics, Police Science or related field with five years' crime laboratory experience.
• At least 300 hours of specialized training in crime scene documentation, chemical processing and latent print examination.
• Experience testifying as an expert witness in federal or state courts.
• Prior supervisory experience or leadership training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and supervision of personnel within the Forensic Unit.
• Respond to crime scenes for Critical Incident Investigations as needed to coordinate personnel and assist documentation.
• Rotate as on-call supervisor every other week after normal working hours.
• Provide technical guidance and training to forensic personnel and mentor career development.
• Assign casework and call-out rotation to forensic personnel.
• Assist with casework, including laboratory processing and examinations as needed to reduce backlogs.
• Perform a second verification to latent print identifications prior to reports.
