Job summary

Qualifications

  • Possession of an appropriate valid driver’s license.
  • IAI Crime Scene Certification preferred.

  • Serve as shift supervisory liaison with police officers, detectives, and other City departments.
  • Testify in court as a qualified witness regarding crime scene processing and evidence examination.

Recruitment Overview

City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Forensic Supervisor to supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of assigned staff that are responsible for the collection and preservation of criminal evidence and the processing of crime scenes for assigned Forensic along with specialized forensic services. Perform a variety of administrative and technical duties in support of the forensic unit and the department. May perform duties as the Forensic Manager in his/her absence.



Responsibilities


  1. For the assigned forensic discipline(s), select, train, motivate, and evaluate department staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies, implement discipline procedures.

  2. Assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; monitors schedules and methods for providing forensic services; implements procedures to improve efficiency of the assigned forensic discipline(s).

  3. Maintain daily contact with personnel, assist with and participate in requests for services where qualified, follow up on any issues and complaints, and advise staff on appropriate activities and response to requests.

  4. Complete timely and accurate employee evaluations taking into consideration strengths, weaknesses, and career development issues. Provide performance improvement guidance.

  5. Utilize resources appropriately; conduct and document inspections of personnel, equipment, and vehicles; coordinate daily work schedules and in-service training to manage staffing requirements. Request equipment and supplies to meet the unit’s needs.

  6. Organize and maintain files necessary to carry out supervisory tasks and responsibilities.

  7. Review case folders for accuracy and completeness in accordance with established procedures and conduct administrative and technical reviews where qualified.

  8. Serve as shift supervisory liaison for the Forensic Unit with police officers, detectives, shift commanders, and other City departments.

  9. Attend and participate in continuing education within the appropriate forensic related discipline, along with leadership development and training.

  10. Testify in court as a qualified witness regarding crime scene processing/investigations and examination of evidence.



Experience

Four years of increasingly responsible experience in crime scene processing, or other related forensic field with a law enforcement agency, and has at least one year of supervisory experience.



Training

Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Criminal Justice, Crime Scene Technology, Forensic Science or a related field.



Licensing & Certifications

Required

Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability.


Preferred

IAI Crime Scene Certification.



Background Check Requirement

To comply with Sessions Law 2025-16, applicants offered a position with the City may be subject to a criminal history record check of State and National Repositories of Criminal Histories conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) in accordance with G.S. 143B-1209.26. The City may consider the results of these criminal history record checks in its hiring decisions.



Selection Process

From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background investigation and a driving history check and a polygraph/CVSA examination to be conducted by the Police Department.
