Job description

Green Thumb's Lead Flower Technician- Outdoor role is based in Centreville, Maryland. Pay is $23 per hour. The role combines outdoor plant maintenance with training, production communication, and safety oversight in a regulated cannabis operation.

The lead technician performs the same core plant work as the cultivation team while serving as a stand-in for an area lead. The position requires at least one year of manufacturing or agricultural experience. An associate degree or certification is preferred, and prior cannabis experience is not required. Applicants must be at least 21, hold a valid driver's license, and qualify for state cannabis-industry badging.

Role: Lead Flower Technician- Outdoor
Employer: Green Thumb
Location: Centreville, Maryland
Pay: $23 per hour
Work focus: Outdoor cultivation, training, and production oversight
Outdoor Cultivation And Area Support

The lead technician performs defoliation, pruning, and skirting while recognizing plant strains, growth patterns, requirements, and anomalies. The work follows standard operating procedures and written training, with production goals communicated and tracked across the department. Required computer work supports that communication and record flow.

Serving as a stand-in for an area lead adds coordination to the plant work. The lead technician helps new hires learn department practices, keeps daily work aligned with production goals, and communicates issues that need a higher-level decision. The position connects hands-on cultivation with the routines that keep an outdoor area organized.

  • Plant work: Defoliation, pruning, and skirting
  • Lead coverage: Area-lead stand-in duties and production communication
  • Training: 5S, PPE, safety, GMP, biosecurity, sanitation, and recordkeeping
  • Technical work: IPM activities, computer work, and equipment procedures
Training And Safety Oversight

New hires learn 5S requirements, personal protective equipment, safety, good manufacturing practice, biosecurity, sanitation, compliance, recordkeeping, tools, equipment, and machinery procedures. The lead technician participates in safety audits and hazard assessments, then reports or escalates safety and quality concerns.

Integrated pest management activities include spraying and the requirements attached to that work. The lead technician follows approved instructions and training rather than treating crop protection as an informal task. Continuous improvement projects add a structured way to identify process changes and communicate them to the department.

Green Thumb operates in a regulated cannabis industry that connects cultivation with manufacturing and retail. The company's current career operations include 20 manufacturing facilities, 98 retail locations, and activity in 14 U.S. markets.

Experience And Working Conditions

The lead role calls for at least one year of manufacturing or agricultural experience, intermediate Microsoft Office skills, and effective time management. The work requires independent judgment as well as collaboration, because the lead technician must track production information, train staff, and keep procedures consistent across the area.

Extended work in temperatures above 85 degrees and humidity around 70 percent is part of the stated environment. The position includes reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, repetitive motions, prolonged sitting or standing, and work at heights. The role also requires lifting, carrying, and balancing up to 50 pounds with care around the product.

Plant Knowledge And Floriculture Practice

Outdoor cultivation depends on close observation of plant condition and growth stage. A lead technician uses knowledge of strains and growth patterns to identify anomalies, choose the applicable procedure, and recommend corrective action through the department's established process. IPM work, sanitation, and recordkeeping connect plant health with product quality.

Growing, distribution, importing, technology, research, education, and logistics are among the floriculture career paths described in the American Floral Endowment resources. A lead cultivation technician develops the growing and operations side of that field through plant maintenance, training, hazard review, and production tracking. The same operational knowledge can support future work in crop supervision, greenhouse management, quality systems, or agricultural production.

The Centreville team needs a lead who can keep hands-on work and written procedures aligned. A strong application identifies the crops, tools, production environments, training duties, and safety systems the applicant has handled.

Applicants can also prepare clear examples of correcting a plant or process problem, teaching a procedure, and communicating a production concern. Those examples give the hiring team concrete evidence of judgment, attention to detail, and readiness for area-lead coverage.
