Job summary

Bell Nursery is seeking a Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance department at its Culpeper facility. You will manage technicians, coordinate planned maintenance, and champion safety initiatives across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and irrigation systems.

This on-site role requires hands-on supervision, strong leadership, and the ability to perform repairs, upgrades, and improvements in a greenhouse environment.

Qualifications

• Advanced technical degree or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of power equipment, electrical and plumbing.
• OSHA training certification or ability to obtain within 3–6 months of employment

Job Details: Job Location: Culpeper - Stevensburg, VA, Position Type: Full Time, Education Level: High School, Salary Range: $75000.00 - $90000.00Salary, Travel Percentage: Negligible, Job Category: Skilled Labor - Trades, At Bell Nursery the Maintenance Manager will manage the overall maintenance department within a facility – including the management and oversight of Maintenance Technicians, coordination of all planned maintenance for a facility and chief advocate on safety initiatives - safety encompassing all facility equipment and processes to preserve the health, safety and welfare of employees within the respective site. He/she will also help with the overall maintenance, repair, upgrades, and improvements of a facility. This role will direct the activities of Maintenance Technicians that are direct reports but also perform regular maintenance and repairs of the greenhouse structure, production equipment, plumbing-PVC, and general housekeeping of the building. This is a hands‑on role requiring basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, with a focus on irrigation systems, greenhouse maintenance, and the installation and repair of production equipment.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Qualifications: Skills & Competencies

• Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed
• Ability to lift 40 pounds
• Ability to drive maintenance equipment – necessary certifications

Requirements

• Advanced technical degree/certification or equivalent work experience
• General, if not better than average knowledge of power equipment, electric, and plumbing
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to perform under minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment in problem solving
• Works well in both a team environment and independently
• Knowledge and proven experience with OSHA requirements/standards for a production facility
• OSHA non-negotiable training certification or ability to obtain within the first 3 months of employment
• 10-Hour OSHA certification training or the ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment
• Adjusts to changing conditions and willingness to work off-shifts
• Available for On Call Emergencies
• Experience with Microsoft Office product suite and Outlook email
• General management, scheduling and organizational skills
