Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Floral Designer to create beautiful arrangements to customer specifications and lead the floral clerks in a fast-paced, customer-focused department. You will ensure the department is stocked, fresh, and running smoothly while processing orders and offering expert care guidance to customers.

You will train staff, handle typical floral orders for weddings and events, and stay current on industry trends.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate strong floral design skills and knowledge of floral products, care and handling, and plant and flower identification
• Lead and guide floral clerks in a fast-paced retail environment
• Solve practical problems and make sound decisions with a variety of variables and limited standardization
• Apply math skills including fractions, decimals, and percentages in day-to-day tasks
• Communicate clearly with customers, team members, and vendors and provide direction and guidance
• Maintain confidentiality on customer order details including who sent, who received, and order contents

Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly, counseling on plant and floral care, and creating arrangements to exact specifications
• Clean, process, and cut flowers and wrap with care to avoid damage
• Fill customer orders completely and on time, including wedding, funeral, and anniversary arrangements
• Understand and process florist orders; maintain confidentiality on all order details
• Inventory product and monitor freshness; replace damaged product as needed
• Lead floral clerks by training on designs, phone orders, and daily tasks
• Order flowers and supplies daily or as directed by Floral Manager
• Identify store areas to place specials and share arrangement ideas
• Stay current on floral industry trends and participate in in-store events
• Unloading trucks and stocking merchandise as needed
• Assist in department absence coverage and support store management
