Job summary

Rocket Lab in Long Beach, CA, is seeking a Principal Flight Software Engineer to lead the software development for space systems. You will develop RTOS/embedded Linux applications, build drivers for IMUs, star trackers, and reaction wheels, and drive rigorous unit testing within CI.

You will collaborate across engineering disciplines and participate in PDR/CDR reviews, supporting on-orbit operations. The role requires a BS in engineering, 12+ years in embedded software, proficiency in

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering (software, computer, electrical, aerospace, or related)
12+ years of embedded software development experience
Proficiency in Rust, C++, and C languages
Experience leading junior software developers and cross-disciplinary collaboration
Active security clearance OR ability to obtain and maintain one
U.S. citizenship is required, due to program requirements

Responsibilities

Develop application software to run within RTOS and/or embedded Linux
Develop hardware drivers for IMUs, Star Trackers, Reaction Wheels and other sensors/actuators
Develop and maintain unit tests within a CI framework
Collaborate with HW-in-the-loop test engineers to verify software/hardware functionality
Participate in design reviews (PDR/CDR) and requirements validation
Assist with on-orbit flight operations
