Job summary

Cumberland County is seeking a skilled Fleet Maintenance Foreman to lead a diverse fleet operation, diagnose and repair vehicles, supervise mechanics, and ensure preventive maintenance is completed safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate will have ASE certifications, a NC vehicle inspector license, and knowledge of brake, engine, electrical, and hydraulic systems, with hands‑on leadership to guide staff and coordinate with Fleet Manager. This role is based in Fayetteville, NC.

Qualifications

Graduation from a two‑year college with automotive emphasis and 3 years of related experience; supervisory experience preferred.
Four ASE A‑group certifications at hire or equivalent; NC vehicle inspector license; CFC recovery certification.
Must supply and maintain a general mechanic’s tool set at the work site.
Knowledge of gasoline/diesel engines, vehicle systems, and shop safety practices.

Responsibilities

Supervise and direct Fleet Maintenance Technicians, assign and review work, provide guidance and training.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and oversee complex repairs for County vehicles and equipment.
Perform and supervise preventive maintenance (brakes, oil, belts, batteries, filters, tires).
Inspect and repair major vehicle systems (engine, drivetrain, electrical, HVAC).
Coordinate with Fleet Manager on hiring, staffing, and performance actions.
