Job summary

GE HealthCare seeks an experienced Firmware Engineer to design, develop, and integrate embedded software for advanced MRI systems, using C++ with OO principles. You will collaborate with hardware, systems, and architecture teams to deliver real‑time firmware with safety, reliability, and testability in mind.

You’ll work in a cross‑functional, SAFe environment, mentoring junior engineers, promoting scalable architecture, and responsibly exploring AI‑assisted development to enhance code quality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 8 years of experience designing, developing, and debugging embedded or firmware software
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and object‑oriented programming, on‑target troubleshooting
  • Experience delivering software across the development lifecycle from requirements to verification
  • Master’s or PhD in a related field (preferred)
  • 3 years CI and automated testing (preferred)
  • 5 years troubleshooting embedded systems with emulators, JTAG, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers (preferred)
  • 5 years with RTOS such as VxWorks (preferred)
  • Experience in Linux environments with containerized workflows (preferred)
  • Interest in AI‑enabled development tools aligned with security and quality standards (preferred)
  • Experience developing medical devices within a QMS (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Lead firmware development efforts including technical planning, execution, and progress tracking with cross‑functional teams
  • Design, develop, and maintain high‑quality embedded software using modern C++ and OO principles
  • Build real‑time firmware components interfacing with hardware while meeting safety, reliability, determinism, and testability requirements
  • Collaborate with system, hardware, and architecture teams to translate product requirements into firmware designs and interfaces
  • Partner with global engineering teams to promote consistent design patterns and scalable architectural improvements
  • Participate in design and code reviews, upholding standards and regulatory expectations
  • Contribute within a SAFe framework including PI planning, sprint execution, and continuous improvement
  • Mentor and support junior engineers to foster learning and strong engineering fundamentals
  • Take ownership with clear communication of progress, risks, and team support
  • Explore AI‑assisted development responsibly to improve code quality, testing, and documentation
