Job summary

Bala Consulting Engineers, a 200-person engineering firm with offices in New York, Boston, Baltimore and Washington, seeks a licensed Fire Protection Engineer to lead the FP Department and support enterprise-wide functions from select offices.

You will design fire protection systems, perform calculations, supervise staff, manage budgets and timelines, and present engineering results. Candidates should have 7+ years in FP design, a PE/FPE license, and strong communication and writing skills.

Qualifications

• 7+ years professional experience in fire protection engineering/design.
• PE/FPE license required; Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering required.
• Advanced knowledge of building codes, fire codes, NFPA standards and FM Global data sheets.

Responsibilities

• Lead FP engineer and technical expert for engineering staff.
• Design and coordinate fire protection systems; perform calculations and review meetings.
• Create detailed plans, processes, and procedures for engineering staff to follow.
• Propose and oversee budgets and timelines for engineering projects.
• Check accuracy of work and methods used by staff.
• Collaborate with department managers across offices.
• Prepare and deliver engineering-related presentations.
• Perform department leadership activities including hiring, coaching and training staff.
