Bala Consulting Engineers seeks a licensed Fire Protection Engineer (FP) to lead the FP Department and support enterprise-wide functions from select offices. Responsibilities include leading FP design, performing calculations, and coordinating with other disciplines on projects.

Requirements include 7+ years of FP engineering experience, a PE/FPE license, and a mechanical or electrical engineering degree. Proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam, BIM, and MS Office is preferred.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional fire protection engineering/design experience.
• PE or FPE license required; degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
• Strong knowledge of building codes, NFPA standards and FM Global data sheets.
• Proven analytical and writing abilities; strong verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Fire Protection department and serve as technical expert across offices.
• Design fire protection systems, perform calculations, and participate in project reviews.
• Create and maintain plans, processes, and procedures for engineering staff.
• Propose and oversee budgets and project timelines; ensure accuracy of work.
• Collaborate with other department managers and present engineering-related content.

• Serve as lead FP engineer and technical expert with the ability to answer questions and resolve issues for engineering staff
• Participate in the design of fire protection systems and coordinate with other disciplines on projects -performing calculations and attending review meetings
• Create detailed plans, processes, and procedures for engineering staff to use and abide by.
• Propose and oversee budgets and timelines for engineering projects.
• Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performed and the methods used by staff.
• Communicate and collaborate with other department managers across all office locations.
• Prepare and deliver various internal and external engineering-related presentations
• Perform department leader activities including hiring, coaching and training of staff

The basic requirements for this position include:

• 7+ years professional experience in fire protection engineering/design
• PE/FPE license required - Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering required
• Advanced working knowledge of building codes, Fire codes, NFPA Standards and FM Global Data Sheets
• Proficient in standard engineering procedures with proven critical thinking ability who works analytically in a quantitative problem solving environment
• Excellent communication (written and verbal)andinterpersonal skills
• Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive ability as part of a team.
• Team supervisory experience
• Proficient relevant software skills including Revit, Bluebeam, BIM and MS office
• Skilled technical writer
