Bala Consulting Engineers, a 200-person engineering firm headquartered in Wayne, PA, seeks a licensed Fire Protection Engineer to lead its FP Department. This role will design fire protection systems, perform calculations, and coordinate with other disciplines on diverse projects.

The candidate should have 7+ years of FP engineering experience, a PE/FPE license, and strong knowledge of relevant codes and standards. Leadership, communication, and mentoring skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional fire protection engineering/design experience.
• PE/FPE license required; Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
• Strong knowledge of building codes, fire codes, NFPA standards, FM Global data sheets.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Fire Protection (FP) Department and serve as technical expert for staff.
• Design and coordinate fire protection systems across projects, including calculations and reviews.
• Create detailed processes and procedures for engineering staff to follow.
• Oversee project budgets and timelines; check accuracy of work and methods used by staff.
• Communicate and collaborate with department managers across offices; present engineering-related material.
• Provide leadership activities including hiring, coaching, and training of staff.

• Serve as lead FP engineer and technical expert with the ability to answer questions and resolve issues for engineering staff
• Participate in the design of fire protection systems and coordinate with other disciplines on projects -performing calculations and attending review meetings
• Create detailed plans, processes, and procedures for engineering staff to use and abide by.
• Propose and oversee budgets and timelines for engineering projects.
• Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performed and the methods used by staff.
• Communicate and collaborate with other department managers across all office locations.
• Prepare and deliver various internal and external engineering-related presentations
• Perform department leader activities including hiring, coaching and training of staff

The basic requirements for this position include:

• 7+ years professional experience in fire protection engineering/design
• PE/FPE license required - Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering required
• Advanced working knowledge of building codes, Fire codes, NFPA Standards and FM Global Data Sheets
• Proficient in standard engineering procedures with proven critical thinking ability who works analytically in a quantitative problem solving environment
• Excellent communication (written and verbal)andinterpersonal skills
• Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive ability as part of a team.
• Team supervisory experience
• Proficient relevant software skills including Revit, Bluebeam, BIM and MS office
• Skilled technical writer
