Job summary

Intertek Building & Construction in Chesapeake, VA is seeking a Senior Field Technician to perform testing, site observations and assessments for construction materials projects. The role involves operating equipment, reading plans, documenting results, and collaborating with clients and project teams on a variety of site activities.

The Senior Technician will work with a team under general supervision, may require off-shift hours and outdoor work in varied weather conditions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ of related materials testing experience required.
• Must have one of the following certifications: ACI Field, ATTI Field, ICC Reinforced Concrete, ICC Soils Special Inspector OR ACI Special Inspector.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record.
• Must be able to work off shift and overtime as needed.
• Ability to lift 30 to 50 pounds frequently; occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound.
• Ability to kneel and squat occasionally.
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods.
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to climb occasionally, and work at various heights.
• Ability to work over night hours and off shift.

Responsibilities

• Operate testing equipment and conduct testing (soil, concrete, or other) and report results.
• Read and interpret plans, specifications, and diagrams.
• Maintain and calibrate standard equipment.
• Perform complex assignments and provide observations with limited interpretation of results.
• Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results.
• Attend project meetings and communicate effectively with client and project teams.
