Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Party Chief Surveying for a field-focused role based in Orlando, FL. You will lead a survey crew, oversee field operations, and ensure accuracy of data using Total Stations, GPS, and related instruments.

The job involves extensive outdoor work, travel, and coordinating with engineers and clients. The role requires strong leadership, 35 years of surveying experience, and the ability to work independently in demanding conditions.

Qualifications

• 35 years of experience as a survey party crew chief or survey party chief (candidates with slightly less experience may be considered based on overall qualifications).
• Proven ability to lead and supervise a survey crew effectively in the field.
• Hands-on experience with land surveying, including construction staking, boundary surveys, ALTA surveys, topographic surveys, and land development projects.
• Proficiency with survey equipment such as Total Station/Data Collector, level, and various GPS methods.
• Familiarity with surveying terms, practices, and field procedures.
• Experience with data collection using Total Stations and related survey instruments.
• Ability to survey independently and manage field tasks with minimal supervision.
• Strong technical and process-oriented mindset, detail-oriented work approach.
• Analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve field issues.
• Ability to work alone when required while maintaining productivity and accuracy.
• Effective verbal and written communication with crew, office, and clients.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable MVR.
• Ability to pass background check and drug test.

Responsibilities

• Locate, review, and research job locations to identify landmarks, features, and changes affecting survey results.
• Supervise the survey crew, set priorities, and coordinate daily work to meet schedules.
• Monitor quality and perform field calculations based on data collected.
• Oversee use and maintenance of survey instruments, tools, and equipment.
• Ensure measured angles and distances are accurate and compliant with regs and standards.
• Coordinate survey findings with engineering, clients, and stakeholders.
• Research previous survey evidence and records to obtain data for current surveys.
• Determine methods for establishing survey control points.
• Maintain accurate field notes, records, and sketches.
• Complete daily logs, time/expense reports, and project documentation.
• Complete safety forms and ensure crew follows safety protocols.
• Consult with office personnel and review final deliverables for accuracy.
• Lead and mentor survey crew, promoting teamwork and high-quality field work.
• Apply experience in construction staking, boundary ALTA/topographic surveys and related tasks.
