Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a skilled Construction Inspector to conduct on-site inspections of large civil projects, verify compliance with design specs, and document deficiencies. You will review submittals, monitor progress, and coordinate with engineers and clients on federal projects.

The role requires travel (100%), a high school diploma and 5+ years of construction experience, and strong writing and communication skills to mentor junior staff and ensure safety and quality standards on site.

Qualifications

• US citizen required and able to pass a federal background check.
• Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Experience with large commercial, municipal, or federal projects and construction processes.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent technical writing and oral communication for interfacing with contractors and clients.

Responsibilities

• Conducts on-site inspections of construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects to verify compliance with design specs, standards, safety codes, and regulations.
• Documents inspection results including deficiencies, deterioration, and required corrective actions.
• Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and drawings with engineers and project teams.
• Monitor construction progress and prepare daily reports and status updates.
• Inspect and verify testing processes to ensure conformity with standards.
• Coordinate field services and ensure safety and quality compliance.
• Conduct site investigations and review relevant data and maps as required.
• Participate in pre-construction meetings, design reviews, and project closeout activities.
• Ensure permits and guidelines are followed and deliver technical documentation.
• Mentor junior staff and liaise between contractors, engineering staff, and clients.
• Perform other duties as required.
