Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an on-site Construction Inspector to conduct inspections of large-scale projects, verify design compliance, and document results. You will review submittals, monitor progress, and ensure safety and quality standards are met across job sites.

The role requires ability to interpret drawings, coordinate with engineers and clients, and travel as needed. A High School Diploma and 5+ years of construction experience are required, with domestic (and potential overseas) travel.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizen required.
• Ability to pass a federal background check.
• Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, specs and contract docs.
• Knowledge of construction processes for large projects (commercial, municipal or federal).
• Strong organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.
• Excellent attention to detail.

• Strong technical writing and verbal communication; interface with contractors and clients.
• Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and independently in field conditions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site inspections of construction, rehabilitation and maintenance projects to verify compliance with designs, standards and safety codes.
• Document inspection results, deficiencies and required corrective actions.
• Review submittals, RFIs, shop drawings and material certifications with engineers and project teams.
• Monitor progress and maintain daily reports, deficiency notices and technical recommendations.
• Inspect construction materials and testing processes to ensure compliance with specs.
• Coordinate field services and enforce safety, quality and permitting requirements.
• Conduct site investigations and review maps, reports and drawings as needed.
• Participate in pre-construction meetings and design reviews; support project closeout activities.
• Ensure compliance with permits and documentation; provide technical direction as needed.
• Mentor junior professionals and liaise between contractors, engineering staff and clients.
