Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an on-site Construction Inspector to perform inspections of civil projects and verify conformity with design specifications, safety codes and federal requirements.

The role requires interpreting drawings, maintaining detailed reports and coordinating with engineers and clients. Domestic and overseas travel may be involved; strong communication and independent work in field conditions are essential.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Able to pass a federal background check.
• Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Demonstrates knowledge of construction processes for large projects.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Conducts on-site inspections of construction, rehabilitation and maintenance projects to verify compliance with design specs, standards, safety codes, and federal regulations.
• Documents inspection results, deficiencies, deviations and corrective actions; prepares sampling.
• Reviews contractor submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and material certifications with engineers and project management.
• Monitors construction progress; prepares daily reports, deficiency notices and project status reports.
• Inspects and verifies construction materials and testing processes to ensure compliance with specs.
• Oversees field construction services, enforcing safety, environmental, QA, and permitting requirements.
• Conducts site investigations, reviews data from maps, reports, test results and drawings as required.
• Participates in pre-construction meetings, design reviews and safety meetings; assists with closeout activities.
• Ensures compliance with guidelines and regulations; prepares technical files and documentation.
• Mentors junior construction professionals and liaises between contractors, engineering staff and client.
