Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. seeks a Principal System Design Engineer – FACTS & HVDC to lead advanced design studies and drive innovations in FACTS and HVDC solutions for North America.

Serve within the Substation Division, reporting to the Product Line Manager—FACTS and HVDC, with a remote role based in the United States and less than 50% travel. You will oversee harmonic filtering, loss calculations, and control performance, while coordinating with global engineering teams,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Power Electronics Engineering with 10+ years in FACTS or HVDC.
• Advanced knowledge of power electronics, substation theory, protection, and control, along with harmonic filtering design methods.
• Ability to conceptualize innovative solutions and improve existing designs to meet evolving market needs.
• Advanced interpersonal, presentation, and technical writing abilities to effectively engage with customers, teams, and stakeholders.
• Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, and power system simulation software, as well as advanced Microsoft Office skills.
• Strong ability to analyze market needs and develop product roadmaps that shape the future of power transmission.

Responsibilities

• Lead cutting-edge design studies for FACTS and HVDC systems, tackling harmonic filtering, loss calculations, noise analysis, and control performance.
• Innovate equipment development including power electronic converters and large transformers.
• Guide protection, control systems, and commissioning testing in the field.
• Collaborate with global engineering teams to share insights on industry trends and innovations.
• Develop technical proposals and participate in industry technical committees.
• Design one-line diagrams and perform critical analyses including harmonic filtering and loss calculations.
• Coordinate system design through factory tests and real-time digital simulator testing.
• Mentor field engineers and deliver timely solutions to installation challenges.
• Develop and maintain design standards for cost-effective practices.
• Engage with trade organizations to influence industry trends.
• Drive cost-reduction initiatives while ensuring reliability.
