Job summary

The YMCA of the Jersey Shore in Freehold, NJ is seeking an Assistant Maintenance Director to oversee day-to-day maintenance operations, supervise two full-time staff, and coordinate routine facility maintenance needs. Reporting to the Director of Facilities & Properties, you will lead efforts to keep facilities safe, efficient, and well-maintained.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of progressive facility management experience, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to troubleshoot complex

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressively responsible facility management.
• CPO certification and Black Seal boiler license or willingness to obtain within 180 days of employment.
• Solid understanding of NJ Department of Health Standards.
• Experience supervising, leading, or directing maintenance personnel.
• Ability to troubleshoot building systems and determine appropriate repair solutions.

Responsibilities

• Review, prioritize, assign, and monitor work orders based on urgency, operational impact, staff availability, and required skill level.
• Personally perform repairs, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks requiring advanced technical skills or experience.
• Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, materials used, and outstanding maintenance needs.
• Implement and maintain preventive maintenance schedules.
• Conduct regular facility inspections and identify maintenance, safety, and operational concerns.
• Ensure identified deficiencies are addressed or appropriately escalated.
• Monitor building systems, equipment, grounds, parking areas, and other facility components.
• Maintain appropriate records of inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and equipment conditions.
• Assist in developing and maintaining long-term facility maintenance plans.
• Perform skilled maintenance and repair work involving building systems, equipment, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, doors and hardware, painting, fixtures, and other facility components within the employee's qualifications and authorization.
• Coordinate routine vendor and contractor visits for assigned facilities as directed by the Director of Facilities & Properties.
• Immediately address or elevate conditions that may present a safety or operational risk.
• Maintain safe work practices and ensure maintenance staff follow appropriate safety procedures.
