Job summary

SR Staffing is seeking a Lead Powertrain Engineer with school bus experience in Houston, TX. You will lead the development and integration of electric powertrain systems, engaging with customers, coordinating cross-functional teams, and guiding testing, validation, and software release processes.

The role requires 5+ years in electric bus powertrain, strong leadership, and expertise in automotive development practices. Travel to customer sites and collaborations with global teams are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in electric bus or electric school bus powertrain integration.
• Strong technical knowledge of electric powertrain systems for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles or school buses.
• Familiarity with automotive product development methodologies (V-Model, APQP, IATF 16949).
• Proficiency with MS Office and engineering documentation practices.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
• Hands-on, proactive, and well-organized work style with leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical discussions and engagement with customers.
• Lead cross-functional development activities for powertrain systems, including requirements, design, integration, testing, and software release management.
• Collaborate with global teams to define architectures and requirements for electric school buses.
• Manage development plans, milestones, budgets, and schedules aligned with roadmaps.
• Develop technical layouts, concepts, and proposals in response to customer requirements.
• Review, guide, and approve technical documentation.
• Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Support product commissioning at internal sites and customer locations (onsite or remote).
• Lead prototype builds, validation activities, and performance testing.
