Job summary

The City of South Pasadena seeks an experienced environmental and sustainability professional to lead advanced analytical work, manage grant programs, and supervise cross‑department initiatives in energy, water, and climate action.

Responsibilities include policy development, contract oversight, budget administration, and effective communication with staff, consultants, and public officials. A Bachelor’s degree and five years of municipal analytical experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Five years of increasingly complex analytical, administrative or program management experience with a governmental agency.
• Desirable master’s degree.
• Possession of a valid Class “C” California Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Lead and monitor analysis work for multiple departments; provide daily direction to subordinates; participate in performance evaluation.
• Develop and implement policies, programs and procedures; manage projects involving research and analysis.
• Coordinate administrative activities for various programs and advise on training needs.
• Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate programs such as water conservation, energy efficiency, climate action, and environmental conservation.
• Review compliance with federal, state, and local laws; interpret requirements and suggest policy changes.
• Research and administer grant programs; track reimbursements and prepare grant budgets.
• Prepare financial and narrative grant reports; interface with finance and auditors on grant activities.
• Perform HR functions; administer workers compensation and property claims.
• Monitor insurance coverage; participate in risk management evaluation.
• Approve invoices; oversee capital projects; manage consultants and contracts.
