The City of South Pasadena seeks an experienced environmental and sustainability professional to lead advanced analytical work, manage grant programs, and supervise cross‑department initiatives in energy, water, and climate action.
Responsibilities include policy development, contract oversight, budget administration, and effective communication with staff, consultants, and public officials. A Bachelor’s degree and five years of municipal analytical experience are preferred.
The ideal candidate is an experienced environmental and sustainability professional with a strong understanding of California environmental regulations, and proven experience implementing municipal sustainability programs. The successful candidate will also demonstrate strong skills in grant administration, project and contract management, budgeting, regulatory compliance, and communicating effectively with staff, community members, consultants, and public officials.

The incumbent will perform a wide variety of highly complex analytical activities within an assigned functional area. Supports and facilitates all administrative aspects of a department and assists managers and directors on special projects, budget implementation, and analysis.
This is the advanced-level class in the Management Analyst series. This class is distinguished from the Management Analyst by oversight responsibility in a variety of functions, and the difficulty and complexity of work performed. It also requires the use of a high degree of independent judgment in making decisions. This position serves as a team lead within the Management Analyst series.
An equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training may substitute for the listed minimum requirements.
This position will perform complex analytical activities for the Department of Public Works, supporting and facilitating administrative aspects of the department and functioning as the lead regarding Environmental and Sustainability efforts. This is essentially a desk job. Physical demands include occasional lifting up to 25 pounds, some reaching, bending, walking, stooping, and squatting. Ability to hear and speak to the general public, and City staff on the telephone and in person. Hand and eye coordination are needed to operate office equipment. Strength, dexterity, coordination and vision to use keyboard and video/computer display terminal.
Generally clean work environment with limited exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, odors or noise. Requires traveling throughout the City and adjacent areas, and the attendance of occasional night meetings.
Possession of a valid Class “C” California Driver’s License.
