Job description

Verdanterra is seeking motivated individuals to join the environmental team as a Lead Environmental Scientist. This position will lead environmental surveys and assessments. You will lead a crew in GPS data collection of wetland and waterbody delineations, habitat assessments, and plant surveys. The project opportunities are geographically diverse, with opportunities to work across Northeast regions. Regardless of exact location, the field conditions are often rugged. Travel may be required, and projects typically require 5-day work weeks with some weekend work possible.

Compensation packages include overtime pay, per diem and expense reimbursement, and bonuses based on performance. Candidates must have positive attitudes, be physically prepared to work in difficult conditions, and be eager to become a critical part of our growing team at Verdanterra. Preferred qualifications are detailed below.

What you will bring:

  • BS/BA pursuit in environmental science or related physical sciences field
  • Working knowledge of, or a willingness to learn, GPS technologies
  • 5-7 years’ relevant experience.
  • Attention to detail with a desire to learn new skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable conditions and on varied terrain
  • Able to travel, work weekends, and regularly work in excess of 40 hours per week
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
  • Interest in participating and supporting various functions of a growing business

What the Role Entails:

  • 90-Day Goal: Become familiarized with Verdanterra’s wetland delineation methodologies by shadowing an experienced team member and independently leading two small-scale delineation projects.
  • 180-Day Goal: Streamline the permitting process for three ongoing projects, reducing the average time by 10%.
  • 365-Day Goal: Form and lead a GPS data collection crew, train one new team member and complete 10 major delineation projects across diverse terrains.
