Job summary

Serco is seeking a Senior Network Architect/Engineer to design, deploy, test, and optimize complex enterprise networks across on-prem, data centers, and cloud environments. The role emphasizes reliability during upgrades, security validation, and collaboration with CyberSecurity teams.

Responsibilities include leading network deployments end-to-end, developing detailed deployment plans, documentation updates, and lab-based validation to emulate production environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• 10 years of relevant experience including design/architecture of networks.
• Active DoD Secret security clearance.
• IAT level 1 Certification.
• Expert-level understanding of TCP/IP stack, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP routing protocols.
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routers, switches, firewalls (ISR/ASR, Catalyst, ASA/Firepower).
• Strong experience with NAT/PAT and firewall technologies.
• Understanding of VLANs, STP variants (RSTP/MSTP), VRRP/HSRP/NSHARP, BFD for fast convergence.
• Experience with network hardware vendors beyond Cisco (Juniper, Arista, Fortinet).
• Familiarity with network security concepts and tools (IPS, Firewalls, VPNs).
• Strong experience setting up and managing complex network test labs.
• Ability to travel 25%, CONUS and OCONUS.

Responsibilities

• Lead or contribute to the design of enterprise-scale networks (core, distribution, access).
• Develop architectures for new projects, sites, and technology upgrades.
• Adapt designs to interface with other systems while ensuring performance.
• Ensure alignment with business requirements and regulatory compliance.
• Lead network deployments from inception to completion using established methodologies.
• Develop deployment plans with timelines, resources, rollback, and contingency planning.
• Update documentation and adapt interfaces for site-specific needs.
• Troubleshoot complex network issues during testing and validation phases.
• Oversee configuration/integration/testing of routers, switches, firewalls, OSs, routing protocols, security policies.
• Build and improve network testing labs to simulate production networks.
• Utilize tools to validate configurations, policies, performance, and failure scenarios.
• Assist CyberSecurity in evaluating security controls related to network architecture.
• Ensure test labs are available for various teams (net eng, security, apps).
