Job summary

WRITER is seeking an AI research scientist to advance large language models and agentic systems for enterprise-scale AI deployments. You will lead end-to-end research from hypothesis to production, shaping planning, multi-step reasoning, and tool usage within a fast-paced, cross-functional team.

You will collaborate with engineering and product groups, publish at major conferences, and mentor junior researchers in a hybrid role based in San Francisco or New York.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on ML research experience, specializing in large language models and post-training.
• Ph.D. in CS/ML/NLP or equivalent demonstrated research with published work.
• Expertise in post-training methods: SFT, RLHF, RLAIF, DPO, GRPO, and related techniques.
• Strong Python and PyTorch (or JAX) skills; capable of building scalable training pipelines and data workflows.
• Meaningful publication record at NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, ACL, EMNLP or equivalent.
• Experience designing or evaluating agentic systems with multi-step reasoning and tool use.
• Values alignment with WRITER: collaboration, challenging assumptions, ownership and impact on customers

Responsibilities

• Lead a high-impact research agenda on LLMs and agentic systems from hypothesis to deployment.
• Design large-scale post-training experiments (SFT, RLHF, RL) to improve multi-step reasoning and tool use.
• Create evaluation benchmarks and methods for enterprise tasks.
• Develop scalable data synthesis and curation pipelines to improve training signals.
• Shape model architecture and training roadmap with research engineering and product teams.
• Publish and present original research at top venues (NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, ACL).
• Mentor and uplift fellow researchers and engineers on the team.
