Job summary

WRITER is seeking an AI research scientist to lead a high-impact research program focused on large language models and agentic systems. You will work across post-training methods, evaluation, and data synthesis, shipping research into enterprise-grade AI products.

You will report to the VP of AI research and collaborate with research engineering and product teams. This hybrid US role is based in SF or NYC, with compensation scaled to experience.

Qualifications

• 7 years of hands-on ML research experience with large language models
• Ph.D. in Computer Science, ML, NLP, or equivalent or equivalent demonstrated work
• Expert-level knowledge of post-training methods (SFT, RLHF, RLAIF, DPO, GRPO) and application to production systems
• Strong Python and PyTorch (or JAX) skills for building and scaling training pipelines
• Meaningful publication record in top ML/AI venues
• Hands-on experience designing or evaluating agentic systems with multi-step reasoning and tool use

Responsibilities

• Lead an independent high-impact research agenda on LLMs and agentic systems
• Design and run large-scale post-training experiments (SFT, RLHF, RLAIF, DPO)
• Develop evaluation benchmarks and methodologies for enterprise tasks
• Build data synthesis and curation pipelines for training signals
• Shape model architecture and training roadmap with cross-functional teams
• Publish and present research at NeurIPS, ICML, ACL, and others
• Mentor researchers and engineers to uphold scientific rigor and impact
