Job summary

Target is seeking a Lead Engineer for Email and Data Protection in its Cybersecurity group. You will guide design and delivery of enterprise email security capabilities, mentoring engineers and shaping scalable backend services, with emphasis on reliability and security.

You will partner with security, messaging, and infrastructure teams to enhance detection, response, and data access while advancing CI/CD and DevOps practices in a hybrid Minnesota-based role.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of software engineering, with platform delivery leadership.
• Strong backend skills with Java and Spring Boot; experience with distributed systems.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and data-intensive workloads.
• Familiarity with cloud-native, CI/CD, and observability practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for engineering, reliability, and lifecycle of email security platforms.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Ingest, process, scan, enrich, and route real-time email data for security detection and response.
• Integrate with vended security products, Strelka, Google Security Operations, and related tools.
• Establish patterns for APIs, events, data models, testing, observability, and secure development.
• Lead design reviews, proof-of-concept work, and architecture decisions.
• Improve operational practices: monitoring, incident response, DR, capacity planning, production readiness.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity, messaging, and infra teams to resolve security events and provide data.
