Job summary

Southwest Power Pool, Inc. is seeking an Energy Economist to evaluate market rules and performance ensuring efficient and sound markets. The role involves on-call rotation and interaction with internal teams, stakeholders, and regulators.

The position requires strong economic analysis skills, experience in market monitoring, and the ability to lead complex projects across the MMU. Hybrid work options may apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in economics; advanced degree may be considered toward relevant experience.
• 5+ years of experience in market monitoring, power marketing, utility regulation or operations, RTO/ISO operations, economic analysis, data analysis.
• Master’s Degree or Ph.D. preferred for Lead level.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate market results for inefficiency and propose changes based on economic theory.
• Analyze market data for indications of market power abuse and manipulation through ad hoc analysis and reports.
• Coordinate with RTO staff, market participants, and regulators regarding market theory issues.
• Monitor data as part of the Market Monitoring on-call rotation.
• Mentor MMU staff and lead development of new reports.
